Lesson 6:    The Prepositions at and in

                   Las preposiciones at e in.

He is at the concert.

The prepositions at and in can cause problems for English students. At is used to talk about places and events.

Las preposiciones at e in pueden causar problemas a los estudiantes del Ingles. At es utilizada para hablar acerca  de lugares y eventos.

He is at work.  She is at home.  We are at school.

He is at the concert.  She is at the theater.

They are at the beach.

In is usually more specific.

In es usualmente mas especifica.

He is in the office.  She is in the bedroom.  It is in the classroom.

 AT  IN

In is used when something or someone is inside something else.
When we talk about the rooms of a house or building, for example,
then in is used. At is used with events or places, such as concerts,
movie theaters, universities and so on.

In es utilizada cuando algo o alguien esta dentro de algo mas.

Por ejemplo, cuando hablamos de las habitaciones de una casa o edificio, entonces utilizamos in. At es utilizada con eventos o lugares,tales como conciertos,cines,universidades,etc.

 

However  at is always used with work and home, and sometimes at and in are both used in similar situations. It is possible to say in the office if the speaker is close to the location. But speakers use at the office if they are not close to the location. Look at the examples:

Sin embargo at es siempre utilizada con work y home y en algunas ocasiones at e in son utilizados en situaciones similares. Es posible decir in the office si el que habla esta cerca del punto. Pero los que hablan utilizan at the office si no estan cerca del punto. Mira estos ejemplos:

 

He is at school. He is in the classroom.
She is at work. She is in the office.
We are at the exhibition. We are in the exhibition hall.
They are at the concert. They are in the concert hall.

Exercise 7    Use in or at with the sentences. SPEAK!  Usa in o at con estas oraciones. ¡HABLA!

                   Los adjetivos posesivos

Let's learn the possessive adjectives. Look at the table:

Aprendamos los adjetivos posesivos. Mira esta tabla:

This is my book.  This is his book.  This is her book.
This is our book.  This is your book.  This is their book.

Exercise 8    Write the correct possessive adjective. Escribe el adjetivo posesivo correcto.

5. This is (I) calculator.

6. This is (we) ticket.

7. This is (she) paper clip.

Lesson 8:    Whose?  De quien?raudio.gif (1185 bytes)

Whose  radio.gif (1060 bytes) is this? Whose  book1.gif (1073 bytes) is this? Whose umbrla.gif (1140 bytes) is this?

Whose is used to know who owns something. Notice that  this is used for questions, but be is used for answers.

Whose es utilizado para conocer quien posee algo. Date cuenta que this is es utilizado para preguntas,pero be es usado para respuestas.

Whose radio is this?  It is his radio.
Whose book is this?  It is her book.
Whose umbrella is this?  It is my umbrella.

The genitive 's is used for nouns and people.

El genitivo 's (posesivo) es utilizado para sustantivos y personas.

Whose ball is this?    It is John's ball.

Whose ticket is this?    It is Tanya's ticket.

Exercise 9    Write the genitive 's for the answers below. Escribe el posesivo para las respuestas inferiores.

Hello. My name is Kathy. I am from America. I am a model.
