Be used with adjectives. Adjectives describe people, places and things. Try to memorize the words below.

    Look at how negatives are used with be.

tall - short    Tom is tall. He is not short.

big - small    Tom's house is big. It is not small.

full - empty    The bottle is empty. It is not full.

easy - difficult    English is easy. It is not difficult.

old - young    Lucy's father is old. He is not young.

long - short    The pants are long. They are not short.

It is sometimes necessary to use short answers with be
First the contractions
must be learned.

Algunas veces es necesario utilizar respuestas cortas con be.

I'm  You're  We're  They're
  He's  She's  It's

Look at how short answers are formed.

Mira como se forman las respuestas cortas.

Am I tall? Yes, I am. No, I'm not.
Are you tall? Yes, you are. No, you aren't.
Is he tall? Yes, he is. No, he isn't.
Is she tall? Yes, she is. No, she isn't.
Is it tall? Yes, it is. No, it isn't.
Are we tall? Yes, we are. No, we aren't.
Are they tall? Yes, they are. No, they aren't.

Remember to say Is he tall? and not He is tall? It is a rule
in English grammar.

Recuerda decir Is he tall? y no He is tall?  Es una regla de la gramatica Inglesa.

    *Hello and Hi are generally informal and used between people who know 
each other, though not always. How do you do is used in more formal situations.

   *Hello an Hi son generalmente informales y utilizadas entre personas que se conocen,aunque no siempre. How do you do es utilizada en situaciones mas formales.

Lisa:     Hello, Mary. How are you?
Mary:    I'm fine, thanks. And you?
