Lesson 7:    The Days of the Week raudio.gif (1185 bytes)

                   Los dias de la semana.

Today is Monday.

Study and memorize the days of the week. Notice that the first
letter of the day is always capitalized.

Estudia y memoriza los dias de la semana. Date cuenta que la primera letra de cada dia es siempre mayuscula.

  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
  Friday, Saturday, Sunday

When is your party? It's on Saturday.

The preposition on is used with days. However it isn’t necessary. You can say My party is on Saturday or My party is Saturday. People usually say When?  when speaking about a day. But you can also say What day? For example:

La preposicion on es utilizada para dia y fechas especificas. Sin embargo no es necesaria. Tu puedes decir My party is on Saturday o My party is Saturday. Las personas usualmente preguntan When? cuando hablan de un dia. Pero tambien se puede decir What day? Por ejemplo:

When is your party? or What day is your party?

                    Los numeros ordinales.

The store is on 14th Street.

Ordinal numerals are used mostly with dates and addresses. 
Study the ordinal numerals and practice speaking.

Los numeros ordinales se utilizan mayormente con fechas y domicilios. Estudia los numeros ordinales y practica hablando.

  1st first  2nd second  3rd third  4th fourth
  5th fifth  6th sixth  7th seventh  8th eighth
  9th ninth  10th tenth  11th eleventh  12th twelfth
  13th thirteenth  14th fourteenth  15th fifteenth  16th sixteenth
  20th twentieth  30th thirtieth  40th fortieth  50th fiftieth

Some numerals are problems for students. Practice
your pronunciation.

Study and memorize the months of the year. Notice again that 
the first letter is capitalized like the days of the week.

Estudia y memoriza los meses del año. Percatate de nuevo que la primera letra de cada mes es mayuscula como en los dias de la semana.

What's the date? It's March 3rd.

Again the preposition on is used with months, but it isn't necessary. It is possible to say My birthday is on December 24th or My birthday is December 24th. However if only the month is spoken then the preposition in is always necessary. You must say My birthday is in December and not  My birthday is December.

Nuevamente la preposicion on usada con los meses,pero no es necesaria. Es posible decir My birthday is on December 24th o My birthday is December 24th.Sin embargo si solo se dice el mes entonces la preposicion in es siempre necesaria. Tu debes decir My birthday is in December y no My birthday is December.

  What's the date?  It's February 3rd.  (2 / 3)
  What's the date?  It's June 6th.  (6 / 6)
