Could I speak to Ms. Owens, please? It's necessary now to learn how to speak properly on the telephone. The most important thing is to speak politely.Speaking on the telephone in English requires a very polite dialog. We'll begin with the request forms of Could, Can,May and I'd (I would) like to with a typical business call.
As you can see there are various ways to make requests on the telephone. In the U.S.A Could I and Can I are used more frequently than May I. I'd like to is very polite and more formal. For now let's practice using Could I. Look at the dialog below. A: Channing and Associates. This is Becky Inman

is used at the end of the request. Students often forget to say please when speaking on the telephone. And because this is a business

My mother is a beautician. Students have difficulty with the -cian suffix. It is a soft sound.
Remember not to pronounce the -cian sound as a k.
