I'm watching TV. I watch TV every day, and I'm going to watch TV tomorrow.

It's a good idea now to again review the tenses you have learned. So far we have studied the Present Continuous, the Present Simple, future expressions and the Past Simple.

  I'm eating a sandwich.  I eat a sandwich every day.
  I ate a sandwich for lunch.
And I'm going to eat a sandwich tomorrow.

Present Continuous I'm eating a sandwich.
Present Simple I eat a sandwich every day.
Past Simple I ate a sandwich for lunch.
Future Expression (going to) I'm going to eat a sandwich.

Exercise 8    Try to build sentences with the tenses. Use various 
time expressions. SPEAK!

Example     Susan / play tennis

Susan is playing tennis. She plays tennis every day. She played tennis yesterday. And she's going to play tennis this weekend.

1. Oliver / work out 2. Howard / take photographs 
3. Melissa / cook dinner 4. Christopher / write letters 
5. Bob / sing 6. The children / play in the yard 
7. Betty / drink milk 8. My brother / talk on the telephone 
9. My father / shave 10. My mother / watch TV

Answers

1. Oliver is working out. He works out every day. He worked out yesterday. 
And he's going to work out tomorrow.
2. Howard is taking photographs. He takes photographs every weekend. He took photographs last weekend. And he's going to take photographs next weekend. 
3. Melissa is cooking dinner. She cooks dinner every night. She cooked dinner
last night. And she's going to cook dinner tonight. 
4. Christopher is writing letters. He writes letters every Sunday. He wrote letters 
last Sunday. And he's going to write letters next Sunday. 
5. Bob is singing. Bob sings every Tuesday evening. He sang last Tuesday 
evening. And he's going to sing next Tuesday evening. 
6. The children are playing in the yard. They play in the yard every day. 
They played in the yard yesterday. And they're going to play in the yard tomorrow.
7. Betty is drinking milk. She drinks milk every morning. She drank milk this morning. And she's going to drink milk tomorrow morning.
8. My brother is talking on the telephone. He talks on the telephone
every evening. He talked on the telephone yesterday evening. And he's going to talk on the telephone tomorrow evening. 
9. My father is shaving. He shaves every morning. He shaved yesterday morning.
And he's going to shave tomorrow morning. 
10. My mother is watching TV. She watches TV every weekend. She watched TV last weekend. And she's going to watch TV next weekend.

Mr. Johnson had a day off today. He got up early, took a shower, had a big breakfast and went shopping. He went to the supermarket near his home. He always goes there. He bought some milk and bread. He usually buys milk and bread every day. Then he went to a bakery and bought a cake. He often goes to bakeries because he likes sweet things! After that he went home and prepared a wonderful dinner for Mrs. Johnson.

What's the matter? I have a cold.

It's important to know how to use phrases for illness and pain.

  What's the matter?  What's wrong?  Do you feel bad?
  I'm sick.  I have a cold.  I have the flu.  I have a sore throat.
  I have a stomachache.  I have a headache.  I have a temperature.

Let's practice making arrangements on the telephone.

A: Channing and Associates. This is Becky Inman speaking.
Can I help you?
B: Yes, please. This is Martha Miller calling from Adeline Industries. Could I speak to Bob Thornburg, please?
A: Certainly. One moment, please.
C: This is Bob Thornburg speaking.
B: Hello Mr. Thornburg? This is Becky Inman speaking.
C: Oh, hello Ms. Inman. What can I do for you?
B: I'd like to come and talk to you about our new catalog.
C: Of course. How about Wednesday at 3:00?
B: Wednesday? Hmmm ... No, I'm afraid I can't. I have a
meeting at that time.
What about Thursday at 2:00? Is that convenient for you?
C: Yes, that's fine. I'll see you on Thursday.
